Apply for IndyEAP

IndyEAP Opens October 1

Applications open on October 1, 2024 and the last day to submit an application is 5 p.m. on April 14, 2025. Benefit amounts for the 2024/25 program are expected to be lower than previous years.

A complete application packet:

  • Completed and signed application
  • Proof of Income for past 90 days 
  • Utility bill 

If you are unable to fill out an application online you can print one or pick up a paper application at John Boner Neighborhood Centers, 2236 E. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46201. Applications are available at Door #2 in the black boxes found outdoors. Please only fill out an online application or a print application, there is no need to fill out both.

These documents are no longer required for the IndyEAP program

Are you currently in crisis with the utility company?

You are in crisis if you:

  • Received a disconnect notice
  • Are disconnected
  • Have a payment arrangement plan with the utility company
  • Are within 10 days of running out of funds on a pre-paid electric utility
  • Are out of fuel or at or below 25% full on your propane or fuel oil
  • Have depleted or are within 10 days of running out of wood, corn, pellets or other biofuel

If you are currently in utility crisis, complete these steps immediately:
Step 1: Continue to pay your utility bill while waiting for assistance.

Step 2: If you have not already applied, apply for IndyEAP assistance as soon as possible including any supporting documents that are needed. If you have already applied, let us know you are in crisis by emailing us at indyeap@jbncenters.org.

Step 3: Contact your utility company and let them know you have applied for IndyEAP assistance.

Step 4: Review these additional resources and contact 211 for more options.

Supporting Documents

These documents may be needed with your application. Review what each document is used for to decide if you need to submit it along with your application. All documents must be downloaded and sent in with your application. 

Application Instructions and Privacy Notice

This document goes through step-by-step on how to apply for energy assistance. Also included in this document is the privacy notice and explanations of why certain information is collected.

It is best to submit your application online here. Generally, applications submitted online are processed faster than paper applications that are sent in.

If for some reason, it is not possible to submit your application online, you can download a paper copy (starting October 1). Do not fill out an application online and submit a paper application. Only one application needs to be completed. Return the completed application via email, fax it to (463) 270-4714, return to the silver-colored dropbox at Door #2 at John Boner Neighborhood Centers at 2236 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201 or mail it to IndyEAP, PO Box 11469, Indianapolis, IN 46201.

Please note applications can take up to 55 days to process and approval is not guaranteed. You should continue to pay your utility bills while your application is being reviewed. 

This form is used if your Utility Bills are in the name of someone who does not currently reside in your household.  

Use this form if you are reporting unemployment income. This form allows for the Indiana Department of Workforce to release your wage and unemployment benefit information to IndyEAP. 

Use this form if you have household members over the age of 18 that no longer live in your household. You can specify when they moved out and where they are now. 

This form should be completed if you are claiming no income for the past three months. 

This form needs to be completed if you household moves to a new address after your IndyEAP application has already been approved. 

This form allows you to select, if approved, how your IndyEAP will be paid. The payment can be sent directly to your utility vendor, or in some cases this can be paid directly to you to pay your utilities. 

This form is used if you pay your utilities as part of your rent. This form needs to be signed by your landlord stating the utilities are in their name. 

This form is used if you have more than eight (8) family members. Use this form to list additional family members in the household.

Use this form if you are interested in getting connected to other community services that could improve your quality of life. Services include food pantries, shelters, employment services and transportation services.
